Welcome to the Questions and Answers section for new and interested students. If there is a question that is not answered in this section, then please feel free to contact us on the contact form found Here - Contact Form

Q) Is this the original Taekwon-Do?

A) Yes!  We teach the original and authentic Taekwon-Do, as founded by General Choi Hong Hi in April 1955. Since then Taekwon-Do has developed into one of the most popular martial arts in the world. However with popularity comes imitation, and it is often difficult to distinguish between what is original and what is not. The International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) is the original Taekwon-Do worldwide organisation, and International Taekwon-Do Australia is an active member (Recognition plaque No: 5051)

Q) I'm overweight or unfit. Is Taekwon-Do suitable for me?

A) Taekwon-Do is suitable for all ages and body types. New students need not worry about their level of fitness, as it will gradually improve with their Taekwon-Do training. Students are never made to feel uncomfortable or inadequate! We have students from 4yrs to 74yrs old!

Q) I am interested in Taekwon-Do for my young son/daughter. Is Taekwon-Do suitable for youngsters and what can they achieve?

A) Young children benefit extensively from Taekwon-Do. We are living in a society where competition and winning is becoming more important than personal achievement and growth. Children learn in a non-competitive environment, and are taught respect, discipline, ettiquette, self control as well as a very effective self defence. There can be no question that Taekwon-Do is of enormous benefit to children of all ages.

Q) I am interested in competitions. How far can I go?

A) We offer local, national and international tournament competition. Students can even go as far as competing in the World Championships held every 2 years!  For more information on Tournaments, please visit our Tournament information page by clicking -here-

Q) How much will it cost?

A) Please visit our club finder section and submit your enquiry. Some regions have slightly different costs, however we are proud to be one of the most reasonably priced martial arts organisations in Australia, and our fees are heavily discounted to encourage family involvement!

Q) Will I get hurt? What is the contact like?

A) Students regularly report to their clubs unable to train because of injuries sustained during participation in the traditional sports!  Whilst we are doing a body contact activity, we have virtually no injuries.  Women and children can participate in classes without the fear of being constantly bruised and hurt. Whilst Taekwon-Do and Self Defence training often involves some degree of body contact, it is also monitored and controlled to try and ensure the safety of the students.

Q) How long will it take to reach black belt?

A) This is a difficult question to answer, as it really depends on how often you train, and the rate at which you can learn. Typically it takes at least 2-3 years to achieve the rank of 1st Dan Black Belt. We strongly disagree with many schools who promise a black belt in a year or even 6 months!  Traditional Taekwon-Do takes a life time to learn, and senior ranks are attained through hard work, dedication to the art, and a mental development that occurs naturally during the training process.    We place more importance on teaching good technique, and leadership,   rather than the quick advancement in rank.

Q) Are instructors qualified?

A) Yes. Instructors are all required to register with the International Taekwon-Do Australia (ITF), and hold current certification. Whilst many independant martial arts schools may let anyone teach regardless of rank and knowledge, International Taekwon-Do Australia constantly in-services it's instructors.  This ensures that students are provided with the highest possible standards of tuition in all regions.

Q) What happenes if I move overseas or interstate?

A) ITF Taekwon-Do is the original Taekwon-Do and is practiced world wide. We have an extensive network of locations throughout Australia, and in almost every country in the world there exists ITF Taekwon-Do clubs doing propper ITF Taekwon-Do Techniques!  Part of the benefit of belonging to a worldwide organisation is that you can travel almost anywhere in the world and still train. For example we are a sister organisation to the United States Taekwon-Do Federation.

Q) Sounds good!  How can I get more information?

A) Please visit our 'find a club' page. There you can enter your location and any other requirements or questions, and we will contact you promptly with the relevant details and locations. Its that easy!  Click -here- to find a class close to you.
